Physicians at OUTPATIENT CYTOPATHOLOGY CENTER (OCC)

OCC is an independent medical practice, founded in 1991, offering comprehensive fine needle aspiration biopsy services. OCC is one of the first independent FNA practices established in the United States.

Physicians Dr Yasmin Shenawy
YASMIN ELSHENAWY, M.D., FCAP, ECNU is a physician and is Board Certified by the American Board of Pathology in Cytopathology, and in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She completed her pathology residency training at East Tennessee State University, followed by a one-year fellowship in cytopathology at Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to her pathology residency, she completed a one-year fellowship in the infectious disease pathology branch at the Centers of Disease Control (CDC). She also achieved the endocrine certification in neck ultrasound (ECNU) and is the first pathologist in TN to be ECNU certified. Her special interests are thyroid, genitourinary and pancreatic pathology. She is an active committee member in the College of American Pathology. Dr. Elshenawy has published articles in field pathology and also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the ETSU pathology department. When not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
SARAH S. KASSABY, M.D., FCAP, M.I.A.C. is a physician and is Board Certified by the American Board of Pathology in Cytopathology, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. She completed her pathology residency training (anatomic pathology and clinical pathology) at East Tennessee State University and her sub-specialty fellowship training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (one-year fellowship of cytopathology and one- year fellowship of surgical pathology). Prior to her pathology residency, she finished a research program in the infectious disease pathology branch at the Centers of Disease Control (CDC). Dr. Kassaby serves as an active member in the Accreditation Education Committee at the College of American pathologists and is a member of the International Academy of Cytopathology. She has published articles in field of cytopathology and surgical pathology and serves as an adjunct faculty member for the ETSU pathology department. Her interests are running, reading, traveling and gardening.
